KARDIA was created in Rome in January 2001.
The main aim of this project is that of freeing through music the deepest voice of the souls
of its components; of re-designing through the force of sounds and the evocative strength of words the prickly reality that surrounds and absorbs us in our every day life. The whole existence, in all its shades. From ecstasy to dullness. Timebits when the heart, hanging between flesh and heavens feels like exploding in thousand fragments, rebuilding afterwards, brightened by the dim light of a melody. As if it were always summer’s twilight.
Kardia create their own charateristic sound following the initial inspiration of brit new wave and post punk. The Smiths, The Cure, New Model Army, Killing Joke’s melodies melt with a certain punk hardcore attitude that influences the arrangements on a kinetic impact level. The results, implemented by the use of the Italian language, create a multilevel retro soundscape, where romantic ouvertures and psychotic rage coexist.
Encaging Kardia’s sound in single genre definition has proved too difficult. So Kardia themselves decided to define their music as post romantic panzer pop.
Panzer because it’s as heavy as the wehrmacht tanks; post romantic, with reference to the cultural movement that subsequently evolved into the expressionism, manifesto of an artist's propensity to privilege, exasperating it, the emotional data of the reality instead of privileging the objective data, almost exasperating it.
Kardia self-produced the EP "Frammenti di Violenza Controllata" and "PromoSottile/04”, played all around Italy, were reviewed and interviewed by a great number of webzines webzines and magazines, have participated to numerous compilations and many Italian radios broadcasted their songs. As a result of all these activities, in the summer 2007 Kardia were contacted by Killer Pool Records (Davide Cantone, already manager of Subsound Records in Rome), for publishing a full-length album. The band chooses then the management of Carlo Bellotti’s Alkemist Fanatix Europe.
After signing with Killer Pool Records and Narcotica Publishing, in September 2007 the band began the production of it’s first full-lenght, working for a whole month mixing the songs previously recorded at the Hombrelobo Studios in Rome by V Fisik (Inferno). Victor Love from Dope Stars Inc. has taken care of the mixing and production of the album at the Subsound Studios in Rome. The next step was the mastering, submitted to Vincent Sorg at the Principal Studios, in Germany (Dope Stars Inc., Grave Digger, H-Blockx, In Extremo, The Killer Barbies, Kreator, The Ame Immortelle).
The artwork of the album was developed by Paolo Soellner (Klimt1918); the promo shots were captured by Enrico Caputo.
